Local Author Book Signing

Sunday, May 20, 2018 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Stop by the Pomeroy Library from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on May 20th for a meet and greet with local author Chris Stewart. Chris's new book, "Building Champions" is for coaches, parents and athletes that could inspire real and positive change in the culture of youth sports. Copies of the book will be available on the day of the book signing.
“Building Champions” is a new book authored by Chris Stewart, who advocates for a much-needed and different approach to coaching and parenting in the context of sports.
Building Champions: Coaching, Parenting and Playing to Win in What Really Matters is a book that should be required reading for everyone who desires to coach youth sports. It should be used as a training manual for pre-season parent meetings, and it should be a guidebook for all teams and young ball players that want to be the best they can be in their sport. Copies of the book are available now on Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle versions. Chris Stewart is a local coach/author who grew up in Meigs County, Ohio and now lives in Athens, Ohio. He has coached baseball at the high school level for the past 13 years, and recently stepped away from coaching (though he still assists with the Athens High School softball team). Shortly after resigning as head baseball coach at Athens High School, Chris began writing.
“There is something about coaching,” Chris says. “It's hard to stop when it is still in your blood. That has been my experience, which is why I began to write. I certainly do not assume that I am an expert in anything or that I am qualified to write a book, but I’ve come to learn that it doesn’t take an expert to write. It just takes someone with stories to tell or observations to make that might help another person, even if just one. If there is one person that happens to read the book and then decide to change their approach and more importantly their life, then it was worth every second it took to write the manuscript, lay it out in book format, design a cover, and publish it.”
Chris’s prayer is that Building Champions will find its way into hands everywhere there is a team meeting, coaches meeting, or parent meeting. Using books and the wisdom of others can be a valuable asset to any team’s success. Building Champions can be that kind of tool for coaches, teams and families of any age. It is brief (less than 130 pages), the chapters are short and to the point, and the lessons can be immediately implement. It is very practical.
Building Champions recently received its first review on Amazon.com, from Patrick Martin, who writes:
I had tears in my eyes as I started the first chapter, I had tears in my eyes as I finished the last and I smiled plenty in-between. To me, that’s a full experience. I’m leaving this review because I share a desire that Coach Stewart does in maintaining the innocence and majesty of youth sports while at the same time allowing the culture of which the opportunity to develop young men and women (not just kids) into the best players, teammates, coaches and people they can be.
If you are an athlete or a coach or a parent/guardian of either I implore you to purchase this book and at least consider applying the concepts within to your approach to the game and to life. And remember, it's not about being perfect; it’s about being a champion!
Building Champions is available online on Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com. Copies will also be available at book signings throughout the region, dates and times TBA. Chris also blogs at chrismstewart.com.
